Getting Ready for a New School Year! How to Organize a Classroom Library

Wow!  At the end of July I always start getting excited about the new school year.  As much as I love summer, there is just something about walking down the school supply aisle! New notebooks, pencils, pens, smelly markers, any supply a teacher could dream about all ready to aid students in their future learning.  On my todo list there are several items that must be checked off before students arrive the first day: classroom organized, lessons planned, and supplies bought.

My classroom library is always one of the biggest jobs to tackle to begin the school year.  I have decided this year that I'm addicted to buying books my shelves are full! Organizing my books is becoming quite a job.
Picture Books
My picture books are sorted by topics: Weather, Animals, Insects, Science books, Simple Machines, Civil War, etc.

I keep my read aloud books in baskets by subject areas.

Paint sticks: I will use these to separate my books by author's last name.
